Edge protection is required
HSE guidance is that sloping roofs require scaffolding to prevent people or materials falling from the edge, with edge protection fitted at the eaves.
Panels take hours or days, not minutes
HSE only accepts secured ladders and roof ladders for tasks lasting minutes. Carrying and fixing panels and rails is far longer, and heavy, work at the roof edge.
Assume the roof is fragile
HSE says all roofs should be treated as fragile until a competent person confirms they are not. A scaffold platform at the eaves keeps people off the roof surface while materials are passed up.
Inspected before use
A scaffold should be inspected before first use and at least every 7 days after that. We hand over an inspection certificate on every job.

How Long Does It Take?
